The Institute of Hotel Management & Hospitality was established in 2004. It is located at Husain Plaza, 2nd Floor, Road 15 new (Old-28), House-1, Dhanmondi, Main Mirpur Road Dhaka-1209 Bangladesh.

The programs are focused on the industrial and commercial values, meeting international standard. Every student is motivated to be conscientious and attentive. Food hygiene, safety and nutrition are given the highest priority. Courses are designed to serve international standard hotels, motels, restaurants and other sectors of the hospitality and tourism industry worldwide.

IHMH is a private sector of its kind in Bangladesh which offers international standard courses based totally on competency based training in the field of hospitality. The aim is to place its graduates in hospitality industry in home and abroad. The courses offered are focused on operational skills such as food & beverage production and services, front office, etc bringing in changes in the global business environment. The institute’s certifications are recognized and highly regarded, national & international level.

The institute of Hotel Management & Hospitality is approved by – Bangladesh Technical Education Board. BTEB’s initial operation started in the 1960s as Directorate of Technical Education development of technical and vocational educational. To cope up with increasingmagnitude of academic activities, it was reformed as ”Statutory Board” over the entire area of Bangladesh to organize, supervise, regulate, control and develop technical and vocational education. BTEB in its present from became operative with effect from June 1969. The institute also has close ties with the Ministry of Civil Aviation and Bangladesh Parjatan Corporation.

Approved Center & Affiliated with  City& Guilds, UK

The institute of Hotel Management & Hospitality is an approved center in Bangladesh for the City & Guilds, UK, which was established in 1878, primarily to educate young craftsmen in their particular trades. In 1900 the Institute was granted a RoyalCharter. The institute is independent and a registered charity.The purpose of City & Guilds is to encourage vocational education and training, and provide vocational qualities which are recognized worldwide.

As a vocational Examining Board it prepares syllabuses, establishes standards which have to be attain and sets examinations to measure the ability of students to reach those standards. City & Guilds does not run the courses. The courses are offered in approved centers and companies in more than 5000 centers world wide, in line with the requirements of examinations and assessments.

Over  one million candidates each year take the City & guilds exams. Thousands of certificates are issued each year covering the full spectrum of occupational sectors, from business and office skills to engineering. This makes City & Guilds the largest British Vocational examining body, recognized worldwide.

Technical Support by PUM, Netherlands

The institute of Hotel Management & Hospitality received technical assistance with PUM, Netherlands for the VEHICLE Program (vocational Education for Higher Categories and Levels) funded by Dutch Ministry of foreign Affairs.

For more than 30 years, PUM has been playing an important role in the field of international development assistance, sending experts to more than 76 countries in Africa, Asia, the Middle East,Latin America and Central and Eastern Europe. Since PUM was founded in 1978, it has become Europe’s largest ‘job agency for professional volunteers.

PUM’s goal is:

‘Work Defeats Poverty’. The programs are geared towards fighting poverty and encouraging sustainable development in social free-market economics around the world. To ensurea favorable business climate, PUM maintains close ties with labor unions, employer organizations, chambers of commerce and creditors . Because cooperation is essential for future development, PUM also mediates of commerce and creditors. Vocational Education for Higher Categories and Levels (VEHICAL PROGRAM)Vocational Educational for Higher Categories and Levels (VEHICLE) is a new PUM program that aims to improve the quality of education. With better education more graduates will be able to meet the needs of local businesses. The VEHICLE program is funded by the Development cooperation of the Dutch Ministry of Foreign Affairs and targets its partner countries.

Assistance for Awareness Campaign

Institute of Hotel Management & Hospitality & Swiss Contact have signed an MOU for creating awareness in the Tourism & Hospitality Sector in Dhaka & outskirts of Dhaka for giving importance to technical vocational training with certification to unemployed & under-employed youth of the country with a focus to minimize unemployment.

ILO Support in Industry Skills Council for Tourism & Hospitality Sector

To make strategic action plan for the upcoming 2012-2014 for growth & development in Tourism & Hospitality Sector with training assessing industry needs to minimize unemployment. With an agenda to assist this sector:

1)Standardize Syllabus for Bangladesh Technical Education Board 2)Training programs to Train & Certify Hospitality Staffs of Restaurants & Hotels 2) Place Policies for industry & stakeholders to hire trained & certified HR through National Skills Development Council 3) To monitor Tourism & Hospitality training programs in this sector etc.4) To liason with Universities (which offers 4 years honors degree) without hands on training & connect with private sector institutes to join hands for assisting in adding value to four (4) years BA Honors, in practical experience & placements.
